Matthew & Andrea

In 2006, we (Matthew and Andrea Walwyn) took over the running of a village store in Birstwith near Harrogate and set about filling it with great quality, locally sourced products, fulfilling a vision of really making a difference to the lives of local producers, distributors and customers. We were intent on providing the kind of exceptional service and range of products that we would like to experience ourselves.

This gave us the autonomy and power to source whatever products we liked, provided that it was the best quality and it adhered to our strict food ethos of welfare, sustainability and food miles. With fresh daily deliveries from local producers, we were able to support their respective businesses whilst providing our customers with the best quality locally produced food.

In building our business and working with local people we really developed our passionate belief that using local suppliers allows them to develop their skills and businesses within their community. It also means that by reducing the time and distance between producer and the consumer the quality of the final product is enhanced – giving us great honest food.

Our store is still successful and has developed a strong and loyal customer base in Nidderdale which we are proud to support.
